When I began to dive in the realm of email marketing, I kind of went for the most popular system that you maybe even started with for your own email marketing – Mailchimp.  At the time, Mailchimp seemed like the most reasonable system to use since it’s free for up to 2,000 subscribers and you could pretty much send as many emails as you needed.

Initially, it seemed like everything I needed from an email platform – a drag and drop email builder, customizable signup forms, and automated emails to send new subscribers.  So of course, I took advantage of the opportunity and began my email marketing relationship with Mailchimp.

Once I began to really start taking my email marketing serious, I realized that Mailchimp was a great introduction, but was no longer the solution for what I needed from an email marketing system.

I’ve received tons of feedback from others that Mailchimp can seem intimidating and confusing.  I must admit, starting off, it was a little complicated navigating through the different menus and attempting to piece together each function.  Even as a tech-savvy individual, I couldn’t figure it out on my own.

I invested a ton of time learning the system so that I could grow my list, but it still didn’t seem like the right email platform for me.  I stuck with it but I wasn’t very happy when it was time to send out a newsletter and eventually my list was pushed to the wayside.

Sending out a newsletter is supposed to be fun and exciting since you’re connecting with your audience.  But it wasn’t fun, and it wasn’t exciting.

Mailchimp + Me did not equal love.

I found out about Convertkit over a year ago working with a new client who had just migrated to Convertkit and was going through a big transition in her business.  She was very new to Convertkit and so was I, but since I would be working very heavily in that email system I had to learn it and I had to learn it quick!

The learning curve was very quick as Convertkit didn’t have that intimidating look and feel once you log in.  There aren’t buttons in every direction causing some sort of button-frenzy and their user-interface is simple and straight-forward.

What makes Convertkit stand out from the others?

  1. Unlimited Forms and Landing Pages

You can embed a Convertkit form and landing page anywhere on your website.  Once a subscriber signs up using your form, you can also send free downloads as an incentive for subscribing to that form.  There is no extra cost to create a landing page or a form and they’re both hosting directly in Convertkit so you can easily make changes and the changes reflect wherever you have that form.

  1. Automations

Convertkit’s automation rules are great because they will save you tons of time so that you aren’t manually sending out a sequence of emails to subscribers individually.

For example, if you’re providing a freebie to new subscribers that sign up to one of your forms, once signed up, that subscriber can be automatically tagged as “freebie” and your newsletter, sent the “freebie” download and a sequence of emails can begin that relate to the new freebie that they signed up for.

The new visual automation builder is also a very powerful email automation tool that is very simple to use and helps to be able to send targeted content to the right subscriber based on their tags.

For example, when a subscriber joins my email list, I would tag them based off the opt-in form they subscribed to, and start an email sequence that provides content that relates to the opt-in.

  1. Re-send to unopened subscribers

Sometimes emails are deleted before they are even opened.  The average open-rate for email campaigns is between 15.22% and 27.23%.  This easy to use feature with Convertkit can increase your open-rate by 60%. Easily schedule to send your unopened emails and if you’d like, you can change the subject to make your email more appealing.

  1. Check your statistics

Want to check to see which forms are converting?  How many subscribers you are getting daily? Weekly? Monthly?  That’s all possible in Convertkit.

  1. Immediate chat support

If you have questions about how to use any feature they offer, it’s easy to get in touch with someone that can help you immediately. It’s a great feature if you are new to the system and want to make sure that you are using the features properly.

There is so much to love and learn about Convertkit, but what I love most about Convertkit is that Convertkit is a subscriber-based platform whereas Mailchimp is list-based.

This means that all of your subscribers are in one, single, organized list, and there’s no need to pay for duplicate subscribers that have the same email address.

You could click on any subscriber on your list and see the tags, forms, and sequences they have opted into, but because Mailchimp operates using multiple lists, you’ll need to access each individual list to view your subscribers, which can be very time-consuming.
